The Generation Z Student, 3/180

The Generation Z StudentOn Opening Day, I shared a photo of my son, Matthew playing Minecraft.  He constantly watches YouTube videos as well as live screencasts to learn from the masters in the field. He builds face to face and virtual teams to play and navigate the challenges with others. They celebrate their successes (loudly), and suffer their losses together. As a result of his motivation to play this game, he has learned problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and much more. He set up a youtube channel and even built his own server. All this… and he never had a Minecraft class. How do we create and harness this passion for learning in our students in our schools?
